Next year, Game Freak is venturing into uncharted territory with the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus for Nintendo Switch.
It takes place in Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl’s Sinnoh region and transports the series back to a time when Pokémon roamed freely in much harsher environments.
The official game site for this upcoming Switch release has shared some additional information about this “long-gone era” and perhaps one of the highlights on the page is a look at the Poké Balls of old. Here’s a description and some artwork:
“The Poké Balls of old were apparently built a little differently from the ones we know so well. They were made mostly of wood, and steam puffed from their tops when Pokémon were caught.”
According to a number of Pokémon sources, the wooden build doesn’t line up with Johto’s history of Poké Balls originally being made out of Apricorns. Sinnoh is its own region though, so perhaps it did things differently.
So, what do you think of the old-style Poké Ball that puffs steam out of the top? Leave a comment down below.
